Logansport, Indiana
Logansport, Indiana is a city nestled in a valley and built around the Eel and Wabash rivers in north-central Indiana. A city
with significant roots in the railroad and shipping industry, today it's a manufacturing community.
The city has a rich history. It was a trading post in pioneer days, and before that a home to the Shawnee, Cayuga and Pottawatomie Indians. Legend
and
narrative history
accounts claim that the name of the town was chosen in a shooting contest, won by a Colonel John Duret with one shot from a long-barreled rifle toward
a
target 50 yards away. The winning shot landed a bull's-eye on a target naming the town after Chief Logan (originally, "Logan's Port"), a powerful and
peaceful Shawnee Indian chief with links to the legendary Tecumseh and the Prophet.
As written in the 'Zones' section of our blog, Wraith: The Ironhorse is
built around a future version of this small city. When you do see shots of the city zone, you'll notice an absence of vehicles and also suburban
houses. There are also a number of structures built up using what our military consultant calls "military brick."
If there were a global nuclear war, then we're pretty sure that any available fuel for a given nation-state would be reserved for use first by the
military. If you cut off production of oil substantially, even with ethanol systems, then you're likely going to need a
tremendous amount of energy to eradicate nuclear weapon installations in our fictional versions of the Russian-Iranian Chinese Alliance.
After the dust settles, if nuclear devices were detonated over the oil reserves and over ethanol production fields, then extraction exceeds capable
costs. So any vechicles that do exist will be military in origin only.
Without logistics transportation, you're going to see a lot of population simply eradicated from lack of resources. Places like Arizona, where all
foodstuff is essentially imported, will become great wastelands of anarchy.
As it happens, Logansport is fairly close to an existing Air Force base. In the event of a global war, we would most likely see the unification of the
different service branches under the control of a single leader. When the city is bombed, essential structures will need built up around a town design
that can permit population growth and allow for the possibility of the return of vehicular transportation. However, the roads exist only to permit
governmental vehicles to move easily back and forth on patrol.
So, the city zone that players begin their adventure in features these military brick structures, with roads paved over and a few sidewalks mostly
surrounding the buildings themselves. Most folks walk on the pavement because with few vehicles in existance the concept of jaywalking rarely applies.
